In knitting and non-political charity news ---
my friend and i are talking about starting a NJ chapter of Critter Knitters. details are still in the air, but we both want to do something for the shelter animals. you can be sure you'll hear a lot more of THIS in the future on this blog!!
as for this week's political events.
everyone is apologizing for talking about politics or ignoring it completely. i'm about to talk about it - so look away. but i won't apologize, and i will try not to do it often.
i never cared much about politics. i think all the politicians are liars and scoundrels. then 9/11 and the war. i cared about peace. i cared about not being convinced going to war in Iraq was the last resort with no other options.
since then i began caring about other things. (oh i always cared. but i started being more aware of them.) womens rights. gay rights. the environment. and i was not happy with some of the things going on. so i researched. i voted. i did my part.
i thought i did anyway. now i'm outraged. i need to do MORE. i don't hate republicans. i don't hate bush as a person. i am scared and worried about the damage he has done and will do. and i am going to do something about it. i'm ready to fight the good fight.
some groups i am looking into to help make a difference:
codepinkalert
moveon
ACLU
NARAL
WILPF
amnesty international
PFLAG
and i am ordering my "knitters against bush" gear too.
there is a lot of emotional responses and a lot of hatred that i am seeing. i felt that too - but i am trying to act out of a place of love. love for fellow humans and for making sure we all have equal rights. after all you catch more flies with sugar than vinegar right? but if it weren't for the passions and emotions, people wouldn't be inspired to do more beyond just voting. so i think it's a good thing.
The focus of this blog is my knitting, and relevant pieces of my life. I don't intend to change that, but some political stuff may creep in. If you don't like it, don't even bother complaining. just go away. it's a free country.... for now at least.
